It's basically just butter then cucumber, but the sandwiches are usually served cut in triangles and with the crusts cut off. Also traditionally made with white bread. Ooooh and it has to be served with a nice pot of tea!
It's just a sandwich - but I think the answer you're looking for is the traditional 'posh' way to serve them. So the answer would be good, thinly sliced white bread (not the nasty steamed type you get in bags, but proper bread from a bakery) with the crusts cut off. Butter each slice on one side (real butter, not low-fat spread) and add thinly sliced cucumber. Assemble the sandwiches, and slice them diagonally twice so that each sandwich is cut into four triangles. Then serve, with tea!

I saw it on a show (Little mosque on the prarie) and thought it was so funny how the white woman took the cucumber sandwiches to a party where they were serving a bunch of ethnic food.I guess you had to see the show to understand how funny it was.Your question just reminded me of it.Sorry I don't know how to make them.
